Zone East - November 2015

The Sister Training Leaders talked about companionships that are effective.  They began by reading part of a talk by President Uctdorf.

"There are two reasons why missionaries get along as a companionship.  Either they are working together as humble, obedient, and loving companionships or they get along because they are both doing the wrong things."   Quote from talk given by President Uchtdorf

They asked each companionship to tell something that they were really good at.  The answers included:

Teaching together
Street finding
United in goals
Using time wisely
Following the spirit
Striving to be exactly obedient
Understand each other
Laugh together
Praying together and listening to the spirit
United in the work

We always have an extra companion when we include Jesus Christ.  He adds an extra level of protection as we go about His work.  They talked about Ammon and Alma when they were preaching and read the following scriptures.

Alma 9:31-34
31 Now it came to pass that when I, Alma, had spoken these words, behold,
the people were wroth with me because I said unto them that they were a hard-hearted and a stiffnecked people.

32 And also because I said unto them that they were a lost and a fallen people they were angry with me, and sought to lay their hands upon me, that they might cast me into prison.

33 But it came to pass that the Lord did not suffer them that they should take me at that time and cast me into prison.

34 And it came to pass that Amulek went and stood forth, and began to preach unto them also.

The Zone Leaders talked about the importance of having real intent.  We work harder and wiser when we work with real intent.

They hung a rotten banana peel and a candy bar from the ceiling and asked two missionaries to retrieve them within 30 seconds.  The missionary assigned to get the banana peel didn't try very hard and didn't ever get it down.  The missionary attempting to get the candy bar finally jumped really high and was able to get it.  The missionary who didn't get the banana peel said she didn't want to touch it and so didn't do anything.  The missionary who got the candy bar said it was worth it.

It is important to use real intent when asking for referrals.  They showed the back page of Preach My Gospel and asked what stood out out.  All the missionaries said "everyone" because it was in bold print.  Missionaries need to decide now to ask for referrals from everyone.

Asking for referrals is one way to help missionaries find success as they find, teach and baptize.  If they want to be successful, they have to decide what they want to be and work towards that goal.  The ZL's encouraged everyone to read in PMG and do one of the activities listed there.

•Take a few moments and think about your final day in the mission field.  When that day comes:
What do you want to say you have done as a missionary?
What do you want to have become?
What differences would you want others to notice in you?

In your study journal, write an answer to each of these questions.  Determine what
you need to do now to realize these goals.  Write the plans that come to mind.  (Preach My Gospel, pg. 152)
