Daily Dose

We were asked to substitute in the beginners class of Daily Dose English Class at the church. The two sisters who normally teach the class had been asked to teach a lesson on the restoration and needed someone to fill in for them. We were so glad we were able to do it. It was a treat for us to spend time with the cute students and also the other missionaries who were teaching more advanced classes.
At the end of the class session, everyone met together in the chapel for a spiritual thought. President Waddoups gave the spiritual thought and had all the missionaries stand in front and quote Nostro Scopo (Our Purpose) and explained to everyone why the missionaries were teaching the English class and why they had left their families and education for two years to come to Italy to teach the people about the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Battipaglia English Course

We stayed in Battipaglia on the way to Reggio di Calabria and attended the English Course with the missionaries serving there. The English Course always ends with a spiritual thought from the scriptures. I loved the way they did this spiritual thought because they took a story from the bible, made simple costumes to go with it, and had the class participate in reading the thought.

English in Terni

A couple of elders were in Rome for medical reasons and needed to get back to Terni in time to help teach the English course because they have so many students that it takes everyone of them to do it effectively. As soon as the doctor appointment was over, Michael and I drove them on the 1 1/2 hour trip instead of having them take the train because they wouldn't have been there in time. We stayed and helped them teach in the huddles for a while. The English classes are growing in size and almost all of the missionaries are reporting that they have found new investigators through the Daily Dose English course.

Signonella Military Base - Italian Course

There is an American Military Base a few miles from the city of Catania in Sicily. It has a small branch of military members. The missionaries can't teach on the base unless someone specifically invites them to come and teach them in their home. However, they are allowed to teach an Italian course at the church complex. (Many different denominations use the same church.) We are excited about our new English course, but on the base the missionaries have reversed the procedure and use it to teach Italian to the English speaking people on the base. Some of the people who attended are members of the church and some just want to learn Italian but aren't interested in the church. Quite often class members want to know why the missionaries are in Italy and why they speak Italian. It's a perfect opportunity to teach about the gospel. I attended the class with them while Michael was doing interviews.
