New Missionaries - Traditional Pictures - February 2016

February 2, 2016

New Missionaries - February 2016
It's a tradition to take pictures of the new missionaries on the front step of the villa.  The group picture stays on the fridge door until the last missionary returns home.  That means the sister's picture stays up six months after they return home.  The elders feel cheated, but that's just the way it is.

Sights Close By

March 28, 2015

Spring is in the air.  We've been in Rome nearly 21 months and just realized there's a nature preserve close to the villa and and a horse riding park just a short distance away.

Cooking Elders

June 22, 2014

A couple of anziani came to the villa this evening.  In between interviews, they helped slice tomatoes and make bruschetta.  Obviously, eating bruschetta and lemon gelato afterwards was their favorite part.

Yard Work

May 2014

Physical facilities arranged to have the yard at the villa redone.  It really needed a little love.  I said I wanted lots and lots of flowers.  President said he wanted roses.  Guess who won!!!

There's a feral cat feeding spot across the street and we get lots of stray cats.  Already they are checking out the new grass.

Work on the Villa

September 25, 2013

Sometimes I really miss not being able to spend much time at the villa.  It really is a grand old building. However, it is badly in need of some repairs and cleaning.  This is the week it's all been happening.  This is one week I'm glad I haven't been at the villa.

I asked to have a small repair made in the parquet floor in the dining room.  Next thing I know, they have moved all the furniture out and are replacing about 1/4 of the boards and completely refinishing the room.  The dust was awful and the smell of the repairs was worse.  The marble on the stairs hadn't been polished in forever so they polished that.  That was even worse.  Dust covers everything.  Everytime we leave and then return, we find a bigger mess than we left.  We were hoping it would all be finished by Monday night, but now they are going to polish the stairs going to the basement.  They really need it.  Luckily we are leaving again for five days and hope when we return everything will finally be finished.  We really need to get this wrapped up because we have new missionaries coming on October 16.

The Villa

August 3, 2013

My kids want to know what the villa is really like.  This is for them.

The villa was built in 1924 by Mussoulini for his niece.  It was purchased by the church 45 years ago and has been used as a Mission Home ever since.
