The redbud trees and wisteria have been exceptionally pretty this spring. I have loved walking down our street and looking at the flowers. It's sad to see the petals falling to the ground and the trees losing their lustre. Good bye, spring!

Mission President's Seminar
April 21-23, 2015
Every six months a Mission Presidents Seminar is held for the Europe Area. This time we met at the mission headquarter in Frankfurt, Germany. Our mission will be receiving i-pads very soon. In preparation for that, most of the teaching and discussion centered on missionaries using them for missionary purposes and how to help achieve this. We have been a little nervous because missionaries today are young and they have grown up with modern technology. They are much more capable at using i-pads than we are.
We have concentrated our efforts on teaching the missionaries the importance of being obedient and that "obedience brings blessings and strict obedience brings miracles". Many of our fears of the unknown were laid to rest when we were told the First Presidency trusts the missionaries and we should, too. We trust them every day as they go about the Lord's work. We are not their constant companions and we can't be with them all the time. As they are obedient and use the i-pads for righteous purposes, this mission will see miracles. We are excited to be eye witnesses to what will unfold.

Calabria District Conference
April 18-19, 2015
The Calabria District is the only remaining district in our mission boundaries. This area is distant from any other area where the church is stronger and has stakes and wards. The Calabria District consists of 4 very small branches and is lead by a District President who reports directly to President Waddoups, They hold semi-annual district conferences just like any other part of the church. Their meetings are just smaller. The meetings were held in Cosenza.

Pathway Graduation
April 16, 2015
Pathway, an educational program that allows members of the church with some English language capabilities, to take classes that will prepare them to further their educations online. The program started a year ago and the first group of students successfully completed the course and received certificates. It was an historic event. Six of the senior missionaries run the program. It is extremely successful.

Spring in Rome
April 17, 2015
The street in front of the villa is absolutely beautiful this time of year. The redbud trees are in full bloom and wisteria droops from all the branches and fences. Bella!
President planted daffodil bulbs in the flower pot where I plant basil. Now that the flowers are in full bloom, we don't know if the basil tastes like daffodils or the daffodils smell like basil.

Golden Envelopes - April 2015
April 15, 2015
It's fun to watch the missionaries when it is time to open the Golden Envelopes containing the information with the name of their new trainer and where they will be serving. Droopy eyes suddenly fly open with excitement. Thoughts of sleep vanish from their minds. It's an instant transformation.
