Commune di Dominico

October 9, 2014

Members of an LDS Stake have to have their temple recommends signed by a member of the Stake Presidency.  Smaller areas that are not part of a Stake are called Districts.  The Mission President oversees the functions in a District.  The Italy Rome Mission only has one District, but it's a long way from Rome.  Many times his counselor conducts the temple interviews for that area, but he was involved in an accident and wasn't able to do it this time.  That meant Presidente Waddoups had to do the interview or the sister wouldn't have been able to go to the temple.  That meant he had to go to Cosenza to do the interview.  We rearranged our schedule so he could do it while we were in an area only three hours from Cosenza.  When we got there, the day for the interview had been mixed up and the sister wasn't coming until the next day and didn't have transportation to get there that day.  To further complicate the issue, the Branch President had the original recommend that still needed to be signed.  Eventually the Branch President was able to bring the recommend to the church and we drove to the sister's home.  Her home was a 30 minute drive from the church and was located at the very top of one of the small hillside cities that I love so much.  While President did the interview, I walked along the street outside the house and took pictures.  It was pleasant and beautiful an very, very peaceful.

Before driving back to Cosenza, we stopped by the old church on the top of the hill.  On the path leading to the church was a bench with an old gentleman sitting on it.  He agreed to pose for a picture.  On the way down, he had been joined by a neighbor and so we had to take another picture.  They were so excited because their picture was going to go to America one day.  Cute!

Periodically cars in the mission are switched out for new cars.  We came home after having been gone for a week and had a new car sitting in the driveway.
