Taranto Zone - July 2015

At the beginning of each Zone Conference, one of the missionaries is assigned to read a section of the Missionary Handbook and tell why it is important.   The missionary from the Taranto Zone read the same section on Missionary Conduct that the missionary from the Rome East read.  There must be a reason why they are inspired to read the same thing.  In Taranto the elder read the scripture that accompanied the section on conduct.

"They did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God."  (Helaman 3:35)

President Brigham Young taught, "If you go on a mission to preach the Gospel with lightness and frivolity in your hearts, looking for this and that, and to learn what is in the world,  . . . you will go and return in vain . . . .  Let your minds be centered on  your missions".

Strive to represent the Lord according to the highest standards of obedience and conduct.  Keep your words, thoughts, and actions in harmony with the message of His gospel.  Righteous conduct will influence your effectiveness as a missionary and your personal salvation.  Your conduct also affects the trust and confidence nonmembers, members, and other missionaries have in you.  Conduct yourself at all times in such a way that everyone who sees you will recognize you as a representative of Jesus Christ.  (Missionary Handbook pg. 7-8)

President Waddoups introduced the theme for the zone conference which is "Back to the Basics".  He stressed the fact that Nostro Scopo or Our Purpose contains the basics of the gospel.

Our purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

President Waddoups told the missionaries "We are the message.  We dress nice.  We have a smile on our face.  We wear a name tag that identifies us as a representative of Jesus Christ.  We have delivered a message before we even open our mouths to talk."

The Assistants talked about the importance of doing baptismal interviews properly, filling out the baptismal recommend form correctly, getting the necessary signatures, and sending the completed forms to the mission office as soon as possible.
