Alma 17:3
But this is not all;
they had given themselves to much prayer, and
fasting;
therefore they had the spirit of prophecy,
and the spirit of
revelation,
and when they taught,
they taught with power and
authority of God.
Personal
revelation is important in everyone’s life, especially the life of a
missionary. One of our missionaries was
having some personal struggles. One day at a zone conference, his former
trainer, who knew nothing about the struggles, asked how his former companion
was doing and if he could call and talk to him.
He didn’t know why he felt like he needed to talk to him. He just had an impression it was something he
needed to do. It was personal revelation
that he needed to do something, even if he didn’t understand it at the time. President, knowing about the struggles, gave
the former companion the okay to make the call, but didn’t give him any
details.
Because he
acted on his impression, the former trainer was able to call and offer
encouragement to the struggling missionary.
The struggling missionary recognized the hand of the Lord in the timely
call, received a witness that the Lord was aware of him and his struggles, and
decided to stay on his mission. His testimony
increased and he eventually became a trainer himself and served an honorable
mission.
