Erice

January 5, 2015

We spent an afternoon with the missionaries currently serving in Trapani.  We visited their church and talked about the missionary work in Trapani.  Since it was their P-Day, we visited the town of Erice with them.  It was good for us to spend time with them and them to spend time with us.

Erice is a medieval town that sits high on a hilltop above the town of Trapani in Sicily.  Erice was wonderful to visit with it's ancient castles, towers and churches.  The streets are all very narrow and made from stones.  Erice was once a fortress and the town streets and alleys are designed for safety.  Some of the alleys are so narrow that only one person at a time can pass through them.  It is said they were designed like this so the wide streets could be cut off and any invaders would be forced down the narrow alleys.  The soldiers protecting the city could then kill the invaders as they exited the little alleys one at a time.
