Golden Envelopes

May 16, 2014

GOLDEN ENVELOPES!  No matter how tired the missionaries are after traveling for two days and then doing the necessary paperwork and training at the office, they seem to come alive long enough to find out where they are going and who they will be serving with.  We have a special dinner with the missionaries before opening the envelopes.  It's their first real meal in Italy as missionaries.  This time we invited a sister who is serving in our mission until she can resolve her visa issues.  We don't know how long she will be here, but she came in between transfers and didn't get the opportunity to spend the traditional first night at the villa so we brought her back to join with the new missionaries we have now.  She seemed pleased to have the opportunity.  The Assistants always join us for dinner when we have new missionaries.  They are able to answer questions and give some guidance.  Because of the unusual travel arrangements this time, we also had a couple of other missionaries spend the night at the villa.  (I never really know how many people will be here and what time they will arrive.  It's an interesting life, but it always works out.)
