Baptism in L'Aquila

February 22, 2014

It's not very often we are able to attend baptisms because of our travel schedule, but this was a rare occasion that allowed us to go.  The elders baptized a 14 year old girl.  Both her parents and a family friend were there to witness it.  The mother is currently reading the Book of Mormon and the father is showing a little interest, too.   It was a twelve year old ward member who invited her to church and sat in on the lessons with the missionaries.

The elders were surprised when several teenage students from the English class showed up to witness the baptism.  Prior to that, they hadn't shown any interest in religion.

The word L'Aquila means eagle.  We are all hoping for things to soar in L'Aquila.

  1. Wow, what an interesting font. At first I wasn't sure that was what it really was. Are a lot of the fonts like that?

  2. I agree it is an interesting font. It looks like if you got in it it would burst.

  3. The font looks nicer than the ones we used way back in the 70's made from dark green vinyl and steel pipes. When we were told in a zone conference about the first chapel to be built "from scratch" in Pisa the first question asked was "Will it have a real font?" I never heard of one bursting but leaks were a recurring problem, though not as bad as what it took to heat one. Kinda gives you a broader definition of "pioneer" -- doesn't it?

  5. I see we are still using the portable fonts. They were green when I was there back in 1980-81. LOVE seeing baptisms in ITALY!!! Thanks for sharing.
