Rome East Zone - March 2016

We currently have several new Sister Training Leaders and they have all been nervous about assisting with zone conference, but without exception, they have done very well.

The Sister Training Leader in the Rome East Zone re-emphasized the importance of being a Preach My Gospel Missionary.  Rather than talking to people, we need to talk with people and listen to what they are telling us.

"More important than speaking is listening.  These people are not lifeless objects
disguised as a baptismal statistic.  They are children of God,
our brothers and sisters, and they need what we have.
Be genuine.  Reach out sincerely.  Ask these friends what matters most to them.
What do they cherish, and what do they hold dear?  And then listen.
If the setting is right, you might ask what their fears are, what they yearn for,
or what they feel is missing in their lives.  I promise you that
something in what they say will always highlight a truth of the gospel
about which you can bear testimony about about which you can then
offer more. . . . If we listen with love, we won't need to wonder what to say.
It will be given to us--by the Spirit and by our friends."
--Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

When we study Preach My Gospel, we learn the things that will make us more effective missionaries.  We will know what to say and not wonder if what we are saying is the right thing at the right time.
 Doctrine and Covenants 43:15-16
Again I say, hearken ye elders of my church, whom I have appointed:
Ye are not sent forth to be taught, but to teach the children of men the things
which I have put into your hands by the power of my Spirit.
And ye are to be taught from on high.  Sanctify yourselves and ye shall be
endowed with power, that ye may give even as I have spoken.

The Zone Leaders started by showing a film clip from a talk given by Elder L. Tom Perry in October of 2007 where he talked about raising the bar.

If you don't raise the bar, how will you know how high you can jump?
--Elder L. Tom Perry

There's no growth in the comfort zone and there's no comfort in the growth zone.

We challenge you to rise to a new sense of commitment to assist our
Father in Heaven in His glorious work.  Every missionary has an
important role in helping "to bring to pass the
immortality and eternal life of man".
--The First Presidency

Change isn't easy.  If it was, everybody would do it!
