Good Side of Bad

The good thing about going to the doctor's office is the fun place we found to visit.  We drove by a section of the Rome Wall one day near the doctor's office and I decided I needed a picture of it.  As we drove around the corner looking for a place to park, we found one of the old fountains and a cute little park.  Inside the park is a beautiful overlook point where you can see all of Rome.  Adjacent to it was a very, very old basciica.  There's something unique and fascinating everywhere you go in Rome.

BASCILICA of SANTA SABINA

This Basilica  of Santa Sabina was built in 422 AD and is widely considered the best example of an early Christian church in Rome.   Although few of its mosaics survive, Santa Sabina is famed for its 5th-century wooden doors carved with biblical scenes.  The church was an expansion of a Roman house-church owned by a woman named Sabina.  As was common in ancient Rome, the church preserved the name of the title holder by simply adding "Saint" to her name.

The 5th-century door is carved of dark cyprus wood and contains 18 panels of narrative carvings, most depicting biblical scenes.   The crucifixion scene is the earliest known depiction of that subject in the world.

  1. Was Michael dipping something in the water or are those just droplets? Also... I'm praying for his recovery! Love you both!
