Dinner at the American Embasy

We had only been in Rome a couple of days when we were invited to attend a dinner at the American Embassy with other religious leaders in Rome.  It was hosted by the American Ambassador and a member of the Catholic Holy See.  It was a picnic in the back yard with the largest hamburgers and hotdogs I have ever seen in my life.  The funny thing is that the Ambassador wasn't even there.   The good thing is that the taxi driver stopped at the top of the hill on the way there and let us take a picture of the landscape of Rome.  We also drove by the location of The Mouth of Truth.  I have wanted to see it ever since I first watched the movie Roman Holiday.  Someday we will make it back there to take a proper look.  Right now I'm just content to know where it is.  The legend is that if you say something and put your hand inside the mouth, nothing will happen if you are telling the truth.  I guess it bites your hand off if you aren't telling the truth.  The missionaries like to stick their hand in it with the Book of Mormon in their hand.  Obviously nothing happens and they say it proves that the Book of Mormon is true.  It's not a very effective missionary tool, but probably most missionaries who serve in Rome do it anyway--but only on Preparation Day.
