Church Kitten

August 25, 2013

You've probably heard of a church mouse.  The church in L'Aquila just might have a solution--a church kitten!  The church occupies part of a floor in a huge building.  The people who live in the apartment next to the church have a new kitten.  It squeezes under the divider on the balcony and entertains the members during church.  If the doors are left open, it comes right into the church.  Even the speaker in Sacrament Meeting referred to the cat.

As entertaining as the kitten was, the real reason we went to L'Aquila was to see our missionaries.  We had a couple of permesso packets (permission to remain in Italy) that needed to go to Pescara.  We also needed to go meet with a member from Ascoli.  L'Aquila is kind of on the way to Pescara so we went to church there.  (We were only an hour late because part way there, we realized we had picked everything up and put it in the car except for the packets.  Oops!  We had to go back to Rome and get them since that was the reason we were making the trip.  We'll blame it on the rain.  We don't normally have to take raincoats with us, but it was pouring rain and we figured we might need them.)

We attended church with the missionaries in L'Aquila and then went to Ascoli and had lunch with some members there.  It was about an hour and a half drive from L'Aquila.  Pescara is another hour's drive from there.  By the time we met with missionaries in Pescara and delivered the permesso packets, it was nearly 8:00 pm.  It takes a little over two hours to drive back to Rome.  It was a long day, but the missionaries are always so thrilled to see us and that makes it all worthwhile.
