The New Mission Presidents Seminar for the European Area was held in Preston, England. It was timed to coincide with the church's production of Truth Will Prevail. This pageant is the first one held outside of the United States.
The British heritage of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revolves around sacrifice and longstanding faith. From humble missionary efforts in 1837 that escalated to thousands of baptisms in mere months, the legacy of these early Mormons resounds in the lives of 14.7 million members of the Church today. The British Pageant: Truth Will Prevail tells this story of unique faith.
It was a neat experience to attend the pageant, but the real highlight of the seminar was being taught by Elder Nelson, Elder Ballard and Elder Holland. The five mission president couples in attendance spent an entire day being instructed by the three Apostles. In addition, we had three General Authorities at the seminar--Elder Rasband, Elder Evans, and Elder Allen.
This is the first time in a very long time that the British Isles have been blessed with three Apostles at the same time.
The pageant was held in an open space next to the Preston, England Temple and the Missionary Training Center. We were able to attend a session at the temple and see the new video. It was an amazing weekend.
(On a humorous note, Michael and I each only took a carry-on bag on the plane. We'd never flown on KLM before and we didn't want to have any problems or delays with luggage. Needless to say, as we boarded the plane, we were told nobody could take any carry-on luggage and that we could pick up our bags at our final destination. We'd never seen that before. Usually the bags are placed in the luggage area and then you can pick them up when you exit the plane. We flew from Rome to Amsterdam and then on to Manchester. Our luggage didn't make the trip. It was finally delivered to our hotel in Preston, England the night before we flew back to Rome. I'm not really sure how you lose carry-on luggage, but it does happen.)
