The Rome East Zone is made up of a lot of small little towns. The Specialized Training was held in a town called L'Aquila. If I had to compare it to someplace, it would probably be Park City, Utah. It sits high in the mountains and is basically a winter resort town. People go there in the winter to ski. The elders serving there told me it usually gets 4 feet of snow in the winter. The summers are much cooler in L'Aquila than they are in Rome. In fact, they said they usually have to put a blanket over them even in the summer because it gets so cool at night. Wow! How would that be.
We had a difficult time finding the church. (I know that's not a surprise since we usually get lost anyway.) This time we struggled because so many of the streets were blocked off and we couldn't follow the directions. In the year 2009 L'Aquila was devastated by an earthquake. Much of the town is still undergoing massive reconstruction. The church is located in a building that has been constructed since the earthquake It's pretty modern, but it's still located in a difficult place to find. Seriously, unless you know where most of the LDS churches are, you would never know they were there.
I knew I count count on you for some great pictures.
